Zero no Series
by Panadero - December 6, 2008 11:30:00 PM MST
Tonight we've added the three new girls who appear in the third season of The Familiar of Zero. And now let me use that as the springboard for a rant:
The third series is a perfect example of what's wrong with a lot of anime today: Too much filler and not enough actual content. That the series took between six and eight of its twelve episodes to set any plot of note in motion and also fail to resolve it is incompetence. Doubly so when first season necessities like character and relationship introductions are already taken care of. Triply so when the basics for the third season plot were already laid in place by the end of the second season. I really, really like these characters, and the art and animation is always of good quality. In smaller doses, I can deal with the lack of development of Louise and Saito's relationship (I lived through Ranma and Akane's for seven seasons). I'll likely end up watching the inevitable season four because of those reasons and out of a morbid curiosity to see if the plotting and pacing can sink any lower. There's a LOT of potential in this material but as suggested with season two and confirmed with season three, it simply won't be realized in this staff's hands.
