Description
'Major' Motoko Kusanagi is a cyborg and second in command of Public Security Section 9, an elite police unit specializing in combating cyberterrorism. In the movie adaptations, she speculates that she is not human; that her memories of her past were implanted, doubting that she even has a soul. In the television shows, she was paralyzed at a young age and had her human mind transferred into a prosthetic body, retaining her memories of childhood. Her position as an officer of Section 9 puts her at odds with many elite hackers, including the puppet master and the laughing man.
