Consolation Update
by Panadero - October 13, 2016 4:44:34 PM MST
Tonight I attempt to console myself about a canceled trip to Japan by putting out a nice, sizeable update. It's another mixture of old and new and I enjoyed it all.
First is the somewhat recent microseries Boku no Imouto wa Osaka Okan which chronicles the silly communication differences between siblings when they are reunited after the sister has spent years in Osaka. Anybody who knows me knows that I love Kansai-ben - especially when girls speak it - so it should come as no surprise that I enjoyed this super light entertainment.
Next up is the surprisingly enjoyable Ro-Kyu-Bu! in which a high school student becomes the coach for an elementary school girls' basketball team. I like both moe slice of life shows and basketball so it was an easy title for me to at least try. Despite the standard instances of fan service that threatened to make even me roll my eyes, I really enjoyed the chemistry among the cast, and Tomoko is voiced by the lovely Kana Hanazawa so she was immediately my favorite.
Next we have another World Masterpiece Theater title, Trapp Ikka Monogatari, the story upon which The Sound of Music is based. I've enjoyed every WMT title I've seen so far, and this was no exception. There's something about the pacing and characterization that's so charming and refreshing compared to most other series. I instantly fell in love with Johanna von Trapp.
Lastly, I've added new characters for the Monogatari Series (after watching Owarimonogatari) and for season two of RIN-NE. Owarimonogatari was a great watch as always given I'm a huge Monogatari fan, and RIN-NE season 2 was more of the same, which is essentially serviceable action and comedy with a likeable cast.
